What to do if…
Keep this card open during your service block. Every report filed here is delivered to the Summit founder at hbcuprelawsummit@gmail.com.
Student no-show
- Wait 5 minutes and check the Service Desk queue list for a reassignment.
- Notify the Service Desk so the slot can be released to a waiting student.
- Log it below as a no-show so the Summit can follow up with the student.
Student in crisis or emotional distress
- Stay calm, stay with the student, and do not attempt to counsel or diagnose.
- Signal a Summit staff member or the Service Desk immediately; for a medical or safety emergency call 911, then NCCU Campus Police at (919) 530-6106.
- Do not share what was disclosed with other volunteers. File the report below marked urgent.
Disclosure of misconduct or character and fitness issue
- Do not evaluate, promise an outcome, or advise on how to answer a character and fitness question.
- Tell the student this requires licensed, individualized counsel and refer them to the Summit team.
- Report it below the same day. Keep the details confidential.
Session running over time
- At minute 12 move to next steps; at minute 15 close warmly and stand.
- Offer the Remote Law School Application Materials Review as the follow-up path for deeper feedback.
- Never extend a session at the expense of the next student in the queue.
